St Ignatius is committed to a Restorative Practice approach to supporting ākonga behaviour in our community. Restorative Practice is a relational approach to school life grounded in beliefs about equality, dignity, mana and the potential of everyone.
Using Restorative Practices at St Ignatius supports our Special Catholic Character and our identity as an Ignatian community. The approach focuses on building and maintaining positive, respectful relationships across the school community and offers everyone tools and techniques to restore relationships and mana when things go wrong. Through building and maintaining positive, respectful relationships within school issues are more easily managed.
Through proactive techniques like restorative conversations, mediation, and guided reflection, we empower students to understand the impact of their actions, take responsibility, and repair the harm. This approach not only fosters a safe, respectful environment but also equips students with essential life skills in empathy, communication, and conflict resolution.
In alignment with our Ignatian mission of cura personalis, or "care for the whole person," we prioritise the well-being and holistic development of each student. Our goal is to encourage self-reflection, personal responsibility, and growth.
