At St. Ignatius College, our commitment to delivering a broad, rich, and coherent curriculum remains crucial as we prepare our students for the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) in 2026 and beyond. Our approach fosters intellectual formation, spiritual development, and pastoral care, ensuring that every student is equipped for success. Our core subjects—Religious Education, English and Literacy, Mathematics and Numeracy, Science, Social Science, and PE, Health, and Sport—provide a strong foundation of knowledge and skills. These are complemented by a diverse subject rotation in The Arts, Languages, and Technology, ensuring students engage with a well-rounded and locally responsive curriculum. This comprehensive exposure equips students with the essential skills and knowledge to excel in their senior years.
As part of the NCEA requirements, achieving proficiency in literacy and numeracy is crucial. From 2024, all learners must attain a 20-credit co-requisite specific to literacy and numeracy skills to be awarded any level of NCEA. This co-requisite is a one-time requirement, ensuring that students possess foundational reading, writing, and mathematical skills essential for success in further study, employment, and life. To support this, our curriculum integrates targeted literacy and numeracy development across all subjects, providing students with ample opportunities to meet and exceed these standards.
Our vision is to guide students through a seamless transition into NCEA, building upon the diverse foundation established in the junior years. By fostering critical thinking, cultural competence, and a passion for lifelong learning, we aim to prepare our students not only to meet the academic challenges of NCEA but to thrive as compassionate and informed members of society.
At St. Ignatius College, we are dedicated to nurturing each student's potential, ensuring they are well-equipped for the academic rigors of NCEA and beyond.
